XP just trickles. There are two aspects of scepters that make them unique. The first part is that their attacks are fueled by your Mana, and each attack uses a flat percentage of your mana. In other words, every character will get the exact same amount of shots from a scepter, no matter how high their Mana is.
The best way Ive found to do that is to use a finesse and a sorcery weapon. My choices were daggers (stealth kills, either this or faeblades, just go with it) and chakram since its a powerful weapon that has a long range.
