The EGR is at the back of the engine on the top. 4 bolts are easy to see and remove, 2 of the bolts fix the EGR to the engine block and the other 2 bolt the EGR to the EGR cooler. On some engines, there is a common 12v supply fuse and wiring for the EGR, Purge valve and variable Intake solenoid. So it would be worth checking for intermittent faults in this supply wiring.
